ARTIST STATEMENT

My work has always dealt with eccentric spaces and the transformation of it. My most recent work deals with the contrived space of the museum. Museums are highly choreographed and artificial domains.  A museum is concerned with presentation, arrangement and display and in more recent time’s point of purchase shops. My current drawings, paintings and prints focus on the disconnected narrative that results when one traverses the museum space. I am interested in how this endless stream of images and objects of vastly different cultures is embraced by the viewer.  It is this non-linearity and incongruity that I seek to represent in my work. Where the drawings and paintings focus on the museum at large the prints focus on the Museum Shop.  No place is this non-linearity and incongruity more evident than in the Museum Shop. As an artist I see the museum shop as an alternative exhibition space that also transforms museum’s intended narratives.
